How we work

Syntax & Signal publishes comparisons and reporting on AI tools, developer software, and infrastructure.

We try to make each article useful, clear about uncertainty, and specific about where its information came from.

About this publication

Syntax & Signal covers developer tooling, AI coding assistants, and SaaS infrastructure. Articles are maintained in this codebase, with sources and uncertainty identified where possible.

The tools mentioned on this site do not pay for placement or editorial access.

How comparisons are put together

Comparison articles usually look at the following areas. The depth varies by topic and by the information that vendors make public:

1. Pricing and plan details

Where possible, we check pricing against vendor documentation and pricing pages. Important claims include a date checked and a source in the article.

2. Use cases

Each comparison is framed around a particular context, such as a solo developer or an engineering team. A tool that suits one group may be a poor fit for another.

3. Technical differences

Depending on the article, we examine integrations, security and compliance information, API design, extensibility, performance evidence, and costs beyond the advertised starting price.

4. Interactive controls

Some pages include sliders and cards to show how the conclusion changes with different priorities. They are explanatory controls, not independent tests or promises.

Sources and corrections

For important claims, especially around pricing, features, and policies, we try to show:

• The exact claim we are citing
• The source (vendor documentation, independent benchmarks, or verified news coverage)
• Date checked: when we last verified the claim is still accurate
• Confidence level: High, Medium, or Low based on how authoritative and stable the source is

Commercial Relationships

Syntax & Signal does not currently use paid placements or referral links.

Update Policy

Developer tooling changes constantly: pricing updates, feature launches, deprecations, and policy changes can make an article wrong within weeks. We commit to:

• Reviewing all core comparison articles at minimum quarterly
• Updating articles when major pricing or feature changes are announced
• Displaying a clear Last Updated date on every article
• Adding update notices at the top of articles when significant facts have changed since original publication

If you find a factual error, outdated pricing, or a claim that needs a source, we want to know. Accurate information is the whole point. Corrections are reviewed and applied promptly.
